Tesla style head unit installs - does anyone regret it?

  • Hello all. While I don't mind the stock set up in my 2018 Cascada, I do like to have a larger screen to view maps, etc on. With that said, I am seriously debating buying a Tesla style head unit from AliExpress that I'll install myself.

My question is, for those here who have done that, do you have any regrets?

I did try one of these style head units in my 2011 Cadillac CTS several years ago. While it was nice enough, it was one of the really early versions that ran KitKat 4.4 and could not be upgraded. It was painfully slow, but with the help of a member of the XDA Forum (and a reasonable price), I had a custom ROM built that I flashed and made things better. I know these newer units should be faster, so my only real concern today is CAN bus compatibility, and will it properly interface with my Buick (can I set AC controls to Fahrenheit, will the time display without leading zero's, stuff like that).

BTW, this is the one I'm looking at: https://www.aliexpress.us/item…ayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt

  • Hello and welcome. Perhaps as a suggestion, since the forum is in German, it would be helpful for everyone's convenience to use a translator like I do. I write in Spanish from Spain and respect the original language, although it makes me uncomfortable not being able to express myself as I'm used to. That said, in my case, I don't regret it at all. You'll just have to make sure there's no phantom power consumption from the unit. I don't know why, but many Chinese radios, regardless of the model, have phantom power consumption. You can choose Celsius or Fahrenheit, and all the information you want, be it hours or temperatures. They are usually very complete and quick to use. I wish you luck! ;)
